Description
Detailed description
The three-nave Romanesque church was built between 1227 and 1250 and extended in the 15th and 16th centuries to become a five-nave Gothic hall church. Destroyed in the Second World War, the reconstruction was not completed until 1987.
St. Petri is a very special church that uses its fantastic space for a dialog with fine arts and science. On the first Saturday of every month, late at 11 p.m., St. Petri hosts nightly themed performances with religious and artistic elements under the title "Petrivisions".
The current program is available online here. An arts and crafts market is held here at Christmas time.
In this video, city guide Stephanie Ullrich takes you on a journey through the cultural and university church of St. Petri.
