Detailed description
The triumphal march of marzipan around the world began in Lübeck. Georg Niederegger (1777 - 1856) founded the manufactory, which is still based in Lübeck and is still family-owned.
In the middle of the old town directly opposite the town hall is the famous Café Niederegger with the Marzipan Museum. On the second floor, it presents the history of the "harem confection" and takes visitors on a long journey through time that the almond specialty has traveled from the Orient to Lübeck over many centuries. The 12 life-size personalities made of marzipan are an unmissable attraction: from Hans Jakob Christoffel von Grimmelshausen to Thomas Mann and Wolfgang Joop, all fans of Niederegger's famous marzipan. The most beautiful marzipan souvenirs, above all the magnificent Holsten Gate made of pure marzipan, can be purchased on the first floor. Even the smallest figures such as the cute teddy bears, the lucky pigs or the well-known colorful fruits made of marzipan are small works of art.
Guided tours, marzipan modeling and special events on request.
Tip: Exhibition with life-size figures made of marzipan on the 2nd floor.
