What types of boat can you hire in Travemünde?

Lübeck Bay is a paradise for all fair weather captains as it offers space galore and ideal conditions for an excursion on the water. You can hire many conventional types of boat in Travemünde from the small dinghy “Optimist” to the lightning fast catamaran “Tornado” and various types of motor yacht. If you don't have the right boat licence for what you want to charter, you can get one after a one or two-week course at the sailing schools in Travemünde.

What awaits you in the Lübeck Bay?

Lübeck Bay offers the ideal area for beginners and sailing fans. The wind is generally calm and blows seaward. This gives landlubbers all the time in the world to get used to the water and its specific laws. There are no strong currents or dangerous shallows – and there's a safe harbour every ten kilometres, where you can berth, relax and, of course, get some refreshment. Then there's the idyllic countryside between Wustrow and Fehmarn: Depending on the wind, in summer you can sail either westward or eastward into peaceful bays where you can swim from the boat. And navigating up the Trave to Lübeck is also plain sailing, by the way, as the wide river only has a light current. This cruise with virgin nature on both sides is a very special experience for dinghy sailors.

Sailing up the estuary to Lübeck in a panoramic boat

Relax and enjoy a small boat trip on the Trave on board a comfortable panoramic boat. This roughly 90-minute trip on the estuary from Travemünde to Lübeck 20 kilometres away leads through the wonderful river landscape of the Trave – past the nature conservation area of Dummersdorfer Ufer and the picturesque fishing village of Gothmund. Shortly before the gates of the old Hanseatic city, the ship passes Schellbruch, an idyllic nature conservation area on the bank of the Trave. Use your visit to Lübeck for a leisurely stroll through the historical Old Town. Return to Travemünde by boat or take the bus or train.
